VIT CGPA & Grade Calculator

Calculate SGPA, CGPA, and equivalent percentage for VIT Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal & AP campuses.

VIT CGPA
9.00
Total credits
13
Grade points earned
117
Equivalent percentage
90.0%

How this is calculated

CGPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits) = 117 ÷ 13 = 9.000

Credits are weighted properly here. Assuming every course carries the same credit — as a simple count of S, A, B and C grades does — makes the credit term cancel out entirely and gives a plain average instead of a CGPA.

VIT CGPA & Grade Calculator: how it works

VIT uses an S to F letter scale with credit weighting. Counting how many of each grade you have is not enough — the credits decide the answer.

The VIT grade scale

GradePoints
S10
A9
B8
C7
D6
E5
F0

CGPA = Σ(Grade point × Credits) ÷ Σ(Credits)

Why credits cannot be ignored

If every course carried the same credits, the credit term would cancel out and a plain average of your grade points would give the right answer. VIT courses do not carry equal credits — a laboratory might be one credit and a core theory course four — so the weighting genuinely changes the result.

Worked example · Where the two methods diverge

Given

  • S (10) in a 1-credit lab
  • C (7) in a 4-credit theory course

Working

  1. 1Unweighted average = (10 + 7) ÷ 2 = 8.5
  2. 2Credit-weighted = (10×1 + 7×4) ÷ 5 = 38 ÷ 5 = 7.6

The correct CGPA is 7.6, not 8.5 — a difference of nearly a full grade

Percentage conversion

Percentage = CGPA × 10

Frequently asked questions

Multiply each course’s grade point by its credits, sum those products, and divide by total credits. S is 10, A is 9, B is 8, C is 7, D is 6, E is 5 and F is 0.
