Abjad Gematria & Numerology Calculator

The Arabic letters, in their older Abjad order rather than the modern alphabetical one, carry values from 1 to 1000. The order itself spells the mnemonic sequence abjad hawwaz hutti kalaman, from which the system takes its name.

Letters that exist in Persian and Urdu but not in Arabic — پ, چ, ژ, گ, ٹ, ڑ, ں — take the value of the Arabic letter from which they derive. So گ carries the value of ک, which is 20.

Diacritics carry no value and are ignored, as are spaces and punctuation.

Historically, Abjad numerals were used for numbering before Hindu-Arabic digits were adopted, and remain in use for chronograms — phrases whose letter values encode a date. They also appear in numerological practice and in some traditions of naming.
