Anna University uses a direct ×10 conversion for its regulation 2017 and 2021 schemes.
Anna University CGPA & Percentage Calculator: how it works
Anna University converts CGPA to percentage by a direct multiplication by ten. Here is how the CGPA itself is built from your credits and grades.
The conversion formula
Percentage = CGPA × 10
- Applies to Regulation 2017 and 2021 schemes
Anna University applies no deduction before scaling, unlike VTU and KIIT. A CGPA of 8.5 is 85 percent, straightforwardly.
How CGPA is calculated from grades
CGPA = Σ(Grade point × Credits) ÷ Σ(Credits)
This is a credit-weighted average, not a simple mean of your grades. A four-credit core subject moves your CGPA twice as much as a two-credit elective with the same grade.
| Grade | Points | Marks range |
|---|---|---|
| O | 10 | 91–100 |
| A+ | 9 | 81–90 |
| A | 8 | 71–80 |
| B+ | 7 | 61–70 |
| B | 6 | 50–60 |
| RA | 0 | Below 50 |
Worked example
Worked example · Four courses in a semester
Given
- O grade (10) in a 4-credit course
- A+ (9) in a 3-credit course
- A (8) in a 4-credit course
- A+ (9) in a 3-credit course
Working
- 1Grade points = (10×4) + (9×3) + (8×4) + (9×3) = 126
- 2Total credits = 4 + 3 + 4 + 3 = 14
- 3CGPA = 126 ÷ 14 = 9.00
- 4Percentage = 9.00 × 10 = 90%
