SSLC & Board Percentage Calculator: how it works
SSLC percentage is a simple proportion, but which subjects count towards it depends on what you are applying for.
The calculation
Percentage = (Marks obtained ÷ Maximum marks) × 100
Most state boards mark SSLC out of 500 or 625 depending on the number of subjects and whether languages carry the same weight as core subjects.
Worked example
Worked example · 540 marks out of 625
Given
- Total obtained: 540
- Maximum: 625
Working
- 1540 ÷ 625 = 0.864
- 20.864 × 100 = 86.4
86.4 percent — first class with distinction
When only some subjects count
Some admissions and recruitment processes count only core subjects, excluding one or both languages. Where that applies, subtract both the marks obtained in the excluded subject and its maximum before dividing.
Worked example · Excluding a 100-mark language subject
Given
- Total: 540 of 625
- Language: 78 of 100
Working
- 1Marks counted = 540 − 78 = 462
- 2Maximum counted = 625 − 100 = 525
- 3Percentage = 462 ÷ 525 × 100
88.0 percent on core subjects
