How the Kua number was derived

Solar year used: 1995, digits reduced to 6.

Male: 11 − 6 = 5, and Kua 5 substitutes to 2 for men.

Kua 2 belongs to the West group. The groups are East {1, 3, 4, 9} and West {2, 6, 7, 8} — a fixed classification, not an odd/even split.

The Lo Shu grid places the digits of your date of birth into a 3×3 magic square, and the Kua number is derived separately from the year.

The grid

The Lo Shu square is an ancient magic square in which every row, column and diagonal sums to 15. Each position carries a traditional attribute, and the digits of your date of birth are placed into it — counting repetitions, since a digit appearing three times is read differently from one appearing once.

The Kua number

The Kua is derived from the year alone, and the formula differs by gender.

Male: 11 − (year digits reduced), less 9 if above 9

Female: (year digits reduced) + 4, less 9 if above 9
A result of 5 substitutes to 2 for men and 8 for women
